On Wednesday January, 14th 2015, four teens from La Colonia graduated from the Crush Restaurant Mentorship Program.  Jeovani Aragon and Selenne Olivares graduated for their second time and Yvette Conde and Daisy Mejia were first time graduates.  The mentorship program ran for 10 weeks in which the four teens attended Crush every Wednesday night to work from 5-8pm.  Work consisted of taking turns shadowing a chef, hostess, busing tables and expo (assisting the server) as well as getting one-on-one hands-on training. In attendance at graduation were the teen’s family members and BGC staff, which included CEO David Crean and La Colonia branch manager Gloria Castellanos. Also in attendance was KUSI News which included a small segment of the mentorship program in their evening news.  Jeo, Selene, Yvette and Daisy served everyone a wonderful dinner before being awarded their program completion certificates.  The evening was a complete success as was the entire mentorship program. We are very grateful to Crush for allowing the La Colonia teens such a great opportunity to learn new life skills that we are sure are going to be a great benefit to them.

 Olympians Aaron Peirsol and Jason Lezak will host a motivational talk Q&A session, in water technique analysis, Autograph and Picture session with medals.

USA swimming will be onsite registering all RSD swimmers. Coaches will break off into their groups and discuss season plans. Refreshments will be provided.

The Powerhouse Paddle and Swim Committee, in conjunction with local paddling and swimming enthusiasts and the Del Mar Lifeguards, is proud to present the 13th Annual Powerhouse Paddle and Swim on Sunday, September 27th, 2015. This Del Mar beach event is an opportunity for youth and adults to participate in a challenging, yet friendly ocean competition. Del Mar Powerhouse Paddle & Swim 2015 is fun for the whole family.   Beginners are especially welcome.  The paddleboard races include various events for youth, adults and challenged athletes over courses of 1/4 mile, 1 mile, 3 mile, and 6 mile distances.  The 1 mile roughwater swim race is a unique course that follows the original Del Mar roughwater course from the river mouth to the Powerhouse. POLSTER BRANCH! The 3rd annual “Movie in the Quad” fundraising event is FREE for all families to attend!  The event runs from 6:00pm to 9:30pm. Support Davion’s Unsinkable Efforts to Inspire Today’s Youth for Tomorrow’s Future Taking on a personal mission to conquer his fears and expand his athletic prowess, Davion will be diving out of his comfort zone and into a competition- sized pool to swim a length and show his student athletes that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. The Youth Arts Academy is hosting this year’s 8th annual Commotion – Youth Rock Concert featuring Monday Night Jazz band on Sunday, May 22nd from Noon to 4:00pm. Commotion Concert will take place at a NEW location – the Music Box, a major player in the San Diego’s Live Music Arena. The Music Box, formerly known as Anthology, has the same capacity as the Belly Up and a few hundred less than the House of Blues and North Park Observatory. So this is the real deal for our Rock Bands! Stage, lights, sound engineer will create an opportunity that these young musicians will never forget. Our 13 Rock Bands and Monday Night Jazz band will be showcasing their talents live!
