Educational Scholarship Program

The purpose of the Foundation Educational Scholarship Program is to offer an opportunity for the youth in our community to further their educational goal. The Educational Scholarship Program shall strive to assist young people to pursue a higher degree of education at a community college, trade school or university. It is the goal of the Scholarship Program to continually grow and to be available for youth in perpetuity.
We presently administer the following educational scholarships

The Leonard & Edith Polster Scholarship focuses on financial need and potential for success through scholarships to community colleges, state colleges, universities or trade school.

BGC San Dieguito Foundation Healthcare Scholarship provides assistance for youth who are pursuing education in preparation for a role in healthcare (e.g. dietician, certified nursing assistant, radiology, technologist, nurse, phlebotomist, or physical therapy assistant.

The James E. and Patricia Townsend Memorial Fund provides scholarships for students pursuing careers in the computer field and/or Boys & Girls Clubs involvement.

The Leonard and Edith Polster Scholarship is awarded annually to graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their education at a four year college or university, a community college, or trade/technical school. Preference will be given to applicants in North San Diego County high schools with emphasis being given to students applying to California public universities, community colleges and vocational schools. No out of state colleges and no private colleges. The purpose of the scholarship is to award money to deserving students who might not be able to attend college because of financial constraints. Recipients must be full-time students (enrolled in 12 units or more) to be eligible.

Applicants will be judged on the following criteria:

• Financial need 40%
• Academic standing (2.5 GPA & above) and/or the potential for success 30%
• School/community involvement/work experience 10%
• Student essay 10%
• Recommendations 10%

The following must accompany your application to be complete:

• Essay (statement of intent and/or personal direction)
• College acceptance letter(s) (for four year school)
• Transcript
• Copy of social security card
• 2 letters of reference
• Parents’ 1040 income tax records for 2021 REQUIRED*
• Picture of self (optional)

BGC San Dieguito Foundation Healthcare Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to community youth who are pursuing education in preparation for a role in health care (e.g. dietician, certified nursing assistant, radiology, technologist, phlebotomist, nurse or physical therapy assistant, etc.) Preference will be given to applicants in North San Diego County high schools with emphasis being given to students applying to California public universities and community colleges. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

  • The student has enrolled or plans to enroll in a course of study leading to preparation in the health care field as a professional, paraprofessional or technical worker.
  • The student is able to demonstrate financial need.
  • The student has maintained a 2.5 GPA on a 4 point scale

The following must accompany your application to be complete:

  • Essay (describe intended course of study and goals related to work in the healthcare field)
  • College acceptance letter(s)
  • Transcript
  • Two letters of reference (prefer one each from an educator and an employer)

Parents’ 1040 income tax records for 2021 REQUIRED*

  • Picture of self (optional)
  • Copy of social security card
