Our 2016 Youth of the Year, Yvette Conde

Prepares for County Competition

This is the first time I have had fun shopping for myself. I have never felt happier! I feel so blessed and grateful to be here.” Yvette shares her thoughts with us after a shopping trip with board member, Tara Agen and La Colonia staff members, in preparation for the County Youth of the Year competition March 7th.

These words are backed with confidence, something Yvette has struggled with in the past. The journey Yvette has taken as a result of her YOY title has developed her into a strong, confident young woman.

Our YOY winners represent the best our Clubs have to offer! Like many, Yvette began this process timid and quiet. By the end of the year, with practice, repetition and being encouraged to explore situations “outside her comfort zone”, she has gained the confidence, poise and the self-esteem to take on all the life challenges that lie ahead of her both personally and professionally.

Our Youth of the Year program is Boys & Girls Clubs premier recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Club Teens locally and nationwide. Each year, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito nominates seven YOY finalists which have been chosen from our respective programs and Clubs to represent us in the County and possibly regional, state and national competition. The YOY winner is announced at our Annual Youth of the Year Celebration and signature fundraiser.

Please join us August 4, 2017 at the Del Mar Race Track as we announce our 2017 winner/representative. (see bgcsandieguito.org/events/yoy-gala/ for more details.)
