Keystone Leadership Program for Teens at Highest Attendance Ever
Keystone is an unique leadership development experience providing opportunities for young people ages 14 to 18 years old. The teens participate, both in and out of the Club, in activities in three focus areas: academic success, career preparation, and community service. Thanks to valued and admired Keystone Leader and After School staff member, Danny Castillo, our Keystone Club has grown to 21 teens!
“Keystone has inspired me to do more with my life and do things within my community.”
– Esther, Teen Keystoner
This leadership program educates the teens on democratic decision-making by teaching members to listen carefully, discuss issues respectfully, resolve conflicts, and arrive at a consensus. The teens learn to help others through community service by identifying needs within their own neighborhoods, and planning and running service projects.
“Keystone is a chance to make a difference in the way adults view teenagers. It is a challenge and pushes each individual to achieve their full potential in making a difference. Each of our keystone members are up for the challenge and show everyday how respect, responsibility and hard work can get you to any goals that you wish to obtain. With that knowledge, I’ve been able to see the growth in each keystone member in the way they handle everyday situations. With meetings held every Wednesday, it allows each teen to share their story and have a voice in turn make an impact. I’ve seen many of our keystone members face their fears of public speaking because of the acceptance that their peers have for each other. Each teen have managed to grow stronger and believe in themselves because with “keystone” they know that they are not alone. ” – Danny Castillo, Keystone Leader and After School Staff member
