Jim Watkins, founder and president of Winners Circle Resorts International, Inc., is a well-respected veteran resort developer having developed his first hotel over 40 years ago at age 24.  He has developed over 1,000 homes, 50 apartment complexes, plus numerous hotels, vacation ownership resorts, and other commercial properties.

Over the past 20 years under Watkins  direction, Winners Circle Resorts   a lifestyle company specializing in the development, sales, marketing and management of quality vacation ownership resorts   has become one of the most successful and honored vacation ownership companies on the West Coast with more than 30,000 happy owners and sales in excess of $250 million.  The resorts include: Carlsbad Inn, Del Mar Inn, Winners Circle Beach and Tennis, Southern California Beach Club, Gaslamp Plaza Suites, San Clemente Cove Resort, Coronado Beach Resort, and the award-winning L Auberge Del Mar featured on Robin Leach s  Lifestyles  as one of the world s greatest resorts.  The latest Winners Circle resort was Dolphin s Cove, a 136-unit vacation ownership resort near Disney s $1.4 billion expansion.

In 2002, Winners Circle Resorts sold the last of its development properties (three blocks at the base of the pier in Oceanside) and now focuses on the management of its investment properties including: 801 Industrial Building, Gaslamp Plaza Suites Ltd., Gaslamp Investments, Stratford Square, Winners Circle  Ltd., Loma Alta Industrial, The Del Mar Inn, Carlsbad Inn, Collwood Pines Ltd. and Winners Circle Management Co. Inc.

Jim Watkins was a founding director of U.S. Community Savings Bank.  He has been a member of the Advisory Board for Scripps Hospital and served as economic advisor to the City of Del Mar’s Village Committee and chairman of the City’s Design Review Board.

Jim Watkins has four children with his late wife Carol Watkins.  Jim is extremely active in community affairs, particularly those relating to youth.  Jim Watkins has served as director and president of the Del Mar Chamber of Commerce and Del Mar Rotary clubs.  He served as chairman of the San Dieguito Boys and Girls Clubs and is active in the YMCA.  He is a recipient of the bronze star for service in Korea.  He has twice been named Del Mar Man of the Year (1983 and 1989), and Del Mar Rotary Man of the Year (1984).  He has received the Boys & Girls Club of America Golden Boy Award, the Boys and Girls Club Medallion Award, in 2006 the Boys and Girls Club Living Legend award, and most recently in 2012 was the Honoree of the 2nd Annual Tribute Dinner.  In 2011 he was selected as a finalist by the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce for the Lifetime Achievement Award.  March 7, 2012 was proclaimed as Jim Watkins Day in San Diego County.  In 1987 Jim Watkins was honored as Professional of the Year for the entire United States, by the American Resort Development Association.  He also continues to serve  on numerous community committees.

Even with his numerous charity and civic fund-raising responsibilities, Jim Watkins still finds time to enjoy the beach and tennis with his family and friends.
