From the CEO’s Desk

As we close our 50th year of service and begin anew in 2017, I’d like to reflect on the amazing success and support everyone reading this letter has contributed to. As a former member of the Clubs, mother of two and community member, I am humbled by the hope and possibility our youth, our staff and you (our supporters) have shown through your actions and involvement.

Thanks to you, over the past 50 years, this organization has gone from having only one Clubhouse in Encinitas with a $25,000 annual operating budget to seven Clubhouses throughout North Coastal County and a $5.8 million operating budget. Our 7 after school Clubhouses and 6 specialty programs now serve over 10,000 local youth annually.

My commitment as CEO remains steadfast: to provide the highest quality of care, with clean facilities and effective programming for ALL those who desire it. As costs in California increase and school budgets decrease, the need for safe and affordable after school care as well as exposure to teamwork, healthy lifestyles and creativity will continue to grow. Our organizational goal of never turning a child away especially due to financial restraints has again been achieved. Last year we were able to again assist those families who need us most by offering $350,000 in financial assistance to our members.

Thank you for helping us achieve our goals and allowing us to be an integral part of your children’s lives and this community.

I look forward to a fantastic 2017 with all of you!

Sincerely,

2016 Holiday Message

Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito is the longest serving youth organization in our community with no child turned away.

As CEO, I am honored to lead an organization with such a reputable history and to have the opportunity to continue the important work our founders started 50 years ago in building a “Positive Place for Kids”. When schools are out, our Clubs are in!

Thanks to you, over the past 50 years this organization has gone from having only one Clubhouse in Encinitas with a $25,000 annual operating budget, to seven Clubhouses throughout North Coastal County with an over 5.5 million dollar operating budget. Our seven after school Clubhouses and six specialty programs serve over 10,000 local youth annually. Our collective and consistent effort to keep our doors open during out-of-school hours helps ensure a positive impact on the future of our community. Today, ALL youth face greater challenges and stresses than ever before. With single-parent homes, unemployment still pervasive, and negative influences, such as drugs, bullying, and social media, the youth in our community need us now more than ever.

Today, we launch our 2016 Year-End Campaign. Our goal is to raise $50,000 by December 31st. These funds would be used to offset the shortfall of revenues versus expenses from programming, maintenance, and the over $350,000 we provide in financial assistance to our youth. In order to sustain our current capacity of service to youth and families with increased impact through the development and implementation of new programs, WE NEED YOUR HELP.

We simply can’t do it without you. Your support makes a real, lasting impact in the lives of the youth we serve.
I know firsthand, as I have been affected by the Clubs personally for the past 25 years: from when I was a swim instructor at age 15, to today as the mom of two children who have grown up in the Clubs.

This holiday season as you reflect on the gifts in your life, please consider giving to the youth in our community. I thank you for your generosity
and I am truly grateful for your support.

Happy holidays to you and your family,

Sincerely,

2016 Annual Report Address

Every day I am humbled and grateful for the amount of passion, energy and support demonstrated by our staff, Board of Directors, and community. As the mother of two girls who attend our programs regularly, I know firsthand the positive affects our Clubs and programs have on the children and families we serve.

This 2015 Annual Report summarizes what I have always known to be true: that our mission to provide positive activities to develop the education, health, self-esteem, and character of youth is VITAL to the success of the next generation as well as to our community.

Our measurement efforts demonstrate the everyday impact on kids who are involved in our Clubs, after school and during the summer. “When school’s out, Clubs are IN.” This year we served over 10,000 youth, increased our membership to over 6,000, and grew our average daily attendance by 10 percent.

My personal oath: to continue to work hard for generations of Club kids, staff, our Board members, and community supporters as we level the playing field by offering every child in our community, regardless of ability to pay, the opportunity to be their best.

As you read through this report, the correlation between success, impact and support quickly becomes apparent. BGC San Dieguito could not exist let alone thrive without the financial and physical support of caring individuals, corporations, foundations, and civic organizations to ensure that our annual operating and programming needs are met. Our programs rely on significant contributions from our many donors and volunteers. I invite you to find out more about our mission, what we offer and our various fundraising efforts by contacting me directly for a personal tour, or by visiting our website www.bgcSanDieguito.org.

As the New Year begins so does our 50th Anniversary of serving this community! Our organization has been at the forefront of identifying and acting on the needs of this community. Become a part of our success and experience what it means to truly make a difference. There is no better time to get in the game because we know GREAT FUTURES START HERE.

With Sincere Thanks,

2015 Holiday Message

As a Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito alum and single parent with two children who attend the Clubs and utilize the services, I know first-hand the value of and need for: providing POSITIVE activities to develop the education, health, self-esteem and character of ALL youth. As a community asset and neighborhood resource, BGC San Dieguito picks up where schools leave off.

When the community asks, we deliver!

• In 2002 when local schools lost funding for expanded arts programs, BGC San Dieguito created the Youth Arts Academy. We now serve over 230 youth weekly in 30 plus classes ranging from rock band, dance, photography, and private lessons for almost all instruments including voice.

• In 2003, when local schools eliminated their middle school sports program, BGC San Dieguito stepped in to ensure physical activity and team work would continue to be a part of our kids’ lives. We now serve 5 middle schools with 10 different sports and over 1,000 student athletes.

• In 2006, the parents in Eden Gardens, Solana Beach voiced their concern for a much needed SAFE after school program in their community for their kids. Shortly thereafter, the BGC San Dieguito started the La Colonia Branch which now serves over 100 youth and teens every day after school through mentoring programs, fitness, healthy living, college prep programs and volunteer and community outreach.

• In 2007 based on the severe shortage of aquatics facilities in the north coastal communities the need for additional pool space was fulfilled. The Pardee Aquatics Center is now home to the nationally recognized RSD Swim Team with more than 500 swimmers per season as well as a safe place for over 1000+ children to participate in swim lessons, adaptive P.E. and other aquatics programs.

• In 2014 in order to continue to foster our healthy lifestyles initiative, BGC San Dieguito expanded the Center for a Healthy Lifestyle in Encinitas featuring a farm to table curriculum. Today our organic gardens and kitchens engage hundreds of teens and kids weekly through interactive cooking classes, gardening, health, fitness, vocational and nutritional classes, and healthy lifestyle counseling.

For the past 49 years BGC San Dieguito has been at the forefront of identifying and acting on the needs of our community. The sustainability of our charity depends on individual giving from supporters like you. Unlike community centers, our organization is NOT funded by tax dollars.

Help ensure our youth receive the support they need to be caring, positive, productive citizens. It’s not just writing a check, it’s shaping your community and our future. Donate NOW and you can play a critical role in shaping the lives of our community’s young people through after school programs, arts, athletics and healthy lifestyles.

Happy Holidays to you and your family.

With Sincere Thanks,
