The uncertainties of COVID-19 have disrupted work environments and networking opportunities while affecting mental health and employee engagement. Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito can help! Join San Diego’s only Virtual Cornhole Tournament that encourages team building and provides a social and competitive outlet, all while promoting your company and brand.

Net proceeds of this event go to keeping our doors open during this crisis. We need your support now more than ever. (Under current pandemic guidelines, we can only serve 1/3 of the youth we normally do in our programs, at 3x times the cost.)

    Date & Time

    Thursday, November 19, 2020

Virtual scoreboard (Zoom) starts at 9am

Scores must be submitted by 3pm

    How It Works

Compete from home or in your office socially distanced from your colleagues – it’s up to you!

Use your own equipment if you have it. If not, contact sdaugherty@bgcsandieguito.org to arrange drop-off of loaner equipment to your office/central location to distribute to individual players.

Each company/org selects 10 players to represent their team. All 10 players will be competing as ONE team with an average total score. Don’t have 10 players? If your team is “down a player” the day of the event, select an existing team member to throw twice and submit BOTH scores.

ZOOM will be used as a live leaderboard and tournament arena for participants and fans from 9am – 3pm November 19th, to log in and out of at their leisure.

We suggest participants from the same team (company/org):

    • Arrange to log into the ZOOM at the same time along with any “fans” that may want to cheer your team on. This will assist in the team building and competitive aspect of the tournament.
    • Create your own internal chat (text string, intranet chat) so fans and players from your team can talk smack, cheer each other on and bond.

*Note: Play does not have to be live-streamed in order for scores to be submitted. Tournament scoring is based on the honor system.  Zoom link will be emailed out the week of the event.

    Set Up & Play

Each player throws 17 bags in total (2 rounds of 8 throws), then finishes with a final SINGLE “clutch” toss worth double points. Final submission of your score must reflect 17 CONSECUTIVE tosses. No piecing together the scores of all your “best” throws throughout the day.

    • Each player sets up one board. In their own home or at your office – doesn’t matter!
    • Measure and mark a line regulation distance from the base of the board 27 feet away. This is where you will throw your bags from.
    • Throw your first 8 tosses, tally your score. Repeat 1 more time for a total of 16 throws
    • Now finish with a single 17th “clutch” toss that is worth double the points.
    • Take your score and triple it.
    • Text your score to our Tournament Director along with your NAME and TEAM NAME
    • Check the leaderboard for updates throughout the day for team rankings
    • Reach out to your colleagues, have fun and be stoked that your company supported a great cause
The winning team will be determined based on the average total score of all 10 players and will receive a custom Cornhole set with their company’s logo/name on it.

  • FAQ

I registered for the in-person event earlier in the year. Will I get a refund?

What time does the tournament start and end?

    What does the winner receive?

Our offices are closed, so how do my employees participate?

What do we do if some of our teammates have their own CH boards but some do not.

How do I make this more of a team-building exercise for ALL my employees – even for those who are not playing?

When and how will the winner be announced?

*Please note – this is a CHARITY TOURNAMENT – there are no referees and those running the tournament are volunteers and staff whose main job is to raise money for the over 6,800 youth members we serve annually. We rely on all participants to be honest in their own scorekeeping. We appreciate your constructive feedback and welcome your spirited yet good-natured competition.

Founded in 1966, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito is the longest-serving youth nonprofit in the San Dieguito community, with no child turned away due to their family’s financial situation. Our programs focus on three main outcomes: Good Character & Citizenship, Academic Success, and Healthy Lifestyles. We level the playing field through activities in our core program areas: the Arts; Character & Leadership Development; Education & Career Development; Health & Life Skills; Sports, Fitness & Recreation; and Technology.

Our 7 Clubhouses and 7 specialty programs throughout Carmel Valley, Del Mar, Encinitas, & Solana Beach serve nearly 6,800 youth members and impact over 16,700 San Diego youth. Last year we awarded over $512,000 in financial assistance through our After School & Specialty Programs, (Aquatics/Rancho San Dieguito Swim Team, Athletics/BIG 8 Middle School Sports, Bulldogs Basketball, Carmel Valley Montessori School, Center for a Healthy Lifestyle, Summer Adventure Camps and Youth Arts Academy), so all local youth could take part in our programs.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Clubhouses were closed for three months, as we shifted to virtual programming for our youth members in April. We recently reopened five of our seven Clubhouses (at limited capacity) for Summer Day Camps. We’ve also been able to re-open our Aquatics Center, Bulldogs Basketball programs, and Carmel Valley Montessori School, as well as continue online music lessons through our Youth Arts Academy. While local support has helped us reopen, we estimate we will only be able to serve one-third of the youth we normally do this summer, at three times the cost. Your support will ensure that working families have a safe and trusted place for their children to get the educational and emotional support they need during these challenging times.
